We’re celebrating 30 years of the mighty Sierra Cosworth RS500 at Ford Fair 2017, with a special display of Ford fans’ favourite Cossie!
Head to the Fast Ford magazine stand where you’ll find an epic display of both road and race cars, including none other than Graham Goode’s 1988 BTCC contender. Now belonging to serial RS500 owner and arguably the model’s biggest ever fan, Paul Linfoot, this iconic piece of motorsport history will gracing our 30th anniversary display.
Graham Goode Racing built the car for the 1988 BTCC season, where Graham himself piloted the Listerine-sponsored Sierra. It was then resprayed in Moss Security colours ahead of the 1989 season when a certain Damon Hill shared the seat with BTCC newcomer, Sean Walker. This was the year that saw Graham, Mike, Laurence Bristow, Tim Harvey, Will Hoy, Robb Gravett, Andy Rouse and a host of other famous Ford favourites attack the asphalt in RS500s wearing a variety of what we now consider to be classic racing liveries (notably Labatt’s Team, Brooklyn Motorsport, Kaliber Racing and, of course, Listerine Racing Team graphics).
Following the rule changes that effectively banned the RS500 from the BTCC, Paul’s Sierra found itself in Malaysia, where it was still eligible for action. That was until about 10 years ago when it came back to the UK, but it wasn’t long before it changed hands a few more times and eventually found itself over in Australia. The good news was that at each step the car had slowly undergone a transformation back to the original 1989 Listerine livery.
Paul is now working closely with Graham Goode to re-introduce all the period-correct parts where they might be missing, and he’s added the all-important ‘Clifford the Dragon’ artwork that has gone missing over the years.
While the legendary Sierra is undoubtedly a piece of motorsport history, Paul firmly believed these machines belong out on track, and not tucked away in a garage somewhere. That’s why he’ll b hitting the Silverstone circuit during the dedicated Fastest Fords track sessions at 11:00am and 15:00pm. Make sure you don’t miss it!
