30 years of Sierra Cosworth RS500

This year marks a special anniversary for one of the fastest Fords ever produced; 30 years of the legendary Sierra Cosworth RS500 our Battle of the Cosworths winner!

Three decades on and the mighty RS500 is still one of the most iconic, most desirable fast Fords money can buy. It’s a pure fast Ford legend! No touring car, before or since, has scooped so many race victories. In fact the RS500 was so successful it won 40 BTCC races in a row, ultimately forcing the rule makers to change the regulations to effectively ban the RS500!

In order to compete on the track, 500 limited edition versions needed to be built for the road too. So 500 examples of the Sierra Cosworth were promptly shipped off to Tickford for their conversion to RS500. This saw the Cosworth YBB engine replaced with the stronger YBD engine – now equipped with massive Garratt T4 turbo and eight injector setup, among a host of other performance-related tweaks. The aim was for the race cars to safely and reliably produce over 500bhp (something they did with ease!) so all road versions benefited from these changes, although not all were full functional on the road cars (such as the eight injector setup).

Since its dominance on both the track and the street, the RS500 has gone down in fast Ford folklore as one of the greatest Blue Ovals ever built. And, to celebrate the icon’s 30th anniversary Fast Ford magazine has invites along an amazing display of these very special machines for you to enjoy at Ford Fair 2017. The display will combine a selection of the cleanest and best-presented road cars as well as a host of genuine Touring Car racers too!

Don’t miss this once in a lifetime display!
